Aaron Haney
iOS Engineer
Leaving Apple just months shy of getting his 10-year commemorative gold embossed official company logo cafeteria tray, Aaron enjoyed a stint at an iPhone development consultancy before joining Inkling. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the kazoo and imitating stunts he saw in the "Jackass" movies. He can also talk to coconuts. They make for poor conversation.
Andrew Hoyer
Web App Engineer
Born, raised and educated in the great white north, Andrew's a young whippersnapper fresh out of college revolutionizing education and eating all candy in sight. When not working unconditionally, he watches classic sci-fi while creating fun and dynamic experiments using all the latest buzzword technologies. Peanut butter and baked goods otherwise earn his undying love.
Josh Forman
Co-founder and VP, Product
Josh (a.k.a. "the product guy") works with the engineering and design teams to translate vision into reality. A dilettante of serious pursuits, Josh received a computer science degree from Harvard before passing through Microsoft, a Harvard laboratory, a startup, and a Ph.D. program in computational biology at Princeton before settling at Inkling. He isn't leaving this time.
Joyce Croft
Design Technologist
After receiving her BFA and then living the freelance life for 10 years, Joyce found her place in the nerdiness at Inkling. A lover of both design and technology, Joyce lives in her dual personality: designer by day, developer by night. Loves: long walks through XML, good design, and geeking out. Turnoffs: eating on public transit, public transit, and IE6.
Kenn Knowles
Platform Engineer
Kenn wrote his first program at the age of 10, the same year he got his first guitar. After spending years rocking out code for youth non-profits and graduating from Berkeley, he found his third passion, education, through tutoring and graduate work in programming languages. He's a natural for Inkling, where great software and better learning are one in the same pursuit.
Kien Nguyen
Interactive Designer
Trained in the discipline of graphic design, Kien is constantly finding innovative ways to translate print media into a digital form. To the rhythmic jars of electronic music, he executes his designs with the finesse and agility of a young master in the art. He may seem like a rockstar or a ninja, but he rejects this nomenclature. He is, instead, the Pokémon of design, adapting his skills to whatever flies his way.
Lauren Struck
Director, Partner Relations
Lauren is the relationship guru, keeping our publisher partners happy. After graduating from UW, she moved to the other Washington to support the charter school movement and help launch DC's school voucher program. She came back west to get her MBA and M.Ed. at Stanford, did some consulting, produced an indie film, and perfected her vanilla shortbread recipe. And now? Inkling!
Marie Szuts
Manager, Content Architecture
Marie watches out for the content team, which means wrangling whatever resources Inkling contenteers need to cross each “t” and place every comma. Her six-year stint running culinary magazines in New York and a graduate degree in medieval history from Yale make for especially scintillating conversation. That is, if you’re interested in veal demi-glace and Latin etymology.
Matt MacInnis
Founder and CEO
Matt's our vision guy. He started Inkling to change the way people learn, and that's what we're doing. On his way to Inkling, Matt stopped by Harvard for an engineering degree, and then popped by Apple for eight years, helping schools put technology to better use. Now he's our chief nerd, keeping the company focused on its roots and its future. His spare time? Laundry and fishkeeping. Seriously.
Matty Morin
Office Manager
Matty takes care of the company, keeping things running smoothly so everyone has what they need to be at their best. After graduating from Pitzer College, Psychology degree in tow, he worked for a number of years in higher education and advertising before stumbling upon Inkling. In his spare time, he plays Words with Friends, watches Golden Girls reruns, and stalks gourmet food trucks.
Milan Phan
Interactive Designer
Milan grew up in the quaint town of Davis in the valley of California, spending half of her time on a bicycle seat and the other half in school. After getting her BS in Visual Design at UC Davis, she pedaled her way to the Bay Area in pursuit of bigger possibilities. She does a little bit of everything on Inkling's content design team and loves to learn, both in and out of the office.
Nicolle Romero
Content Architect
Nicolle has a passion for everything science. After completing her graduate work in biology, she spent five years in the classroom working with the next generation of inquisitive scientists, and three years with McGraw-Hill. What makes her tick? Working with innovative content, creating engaging ways to learn, and seeing it all come to life within Inkling.
Peter Cho
Creative Director
Creativity abounds at Inkling, and Peter does his best to point it in the right direction. When it comes to developing new ways to bring learning content to life on the screen, he's the man. He developed his passion for typography and technology at the MIT Media Lab and explored new reading interfaces in the MFA program at UCLA. His soft spot for reality TV cooking shows only occasionally interferes with his work.
Rob Cromwell
Co-founder and VP, Engineering
Rob built his first Slackware Linux box in ’93 in his parents’ home office, where he spent the remainder of his teenage years. At 19, he moved to America to join his first startup. He hasn't looked back. In the waking hours he spends away from Inkling, he enjoys a healthy diet of Delfina pizza, world travel and distance running. Rob earned his engineering degree from Imperial College London.
Robert Scott
Platform Engineer
Robert, also known as R2, is our resident keyboard operator. When he types, the educational cloud rains knowledge upon the masses. After earning his Computer Science degree from Harvard, he protected small business networks at Untangle. At Inkling, he's all about scale. Scaling the cloud. Scaling fish. Scala. Luckily for everyone at Inkling, he never goes home.
