iPhone Application Engineer

San Francisco, CA

Help us build an amazing and delightful user experience for iPhone OS-based devices. The successful candidate will get a healthy chunk of pre-Series-A equity, a salary, benefits and all the goodness that comes with working at an exciting startup in San Francisco. Responsibilities will be broad and tailored to the skills and passions of the candidate, and will include the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead role in implementing our core client experience on iPhone OS
  • Push the limits of WebKit on mobile devices with HTML5 and other new/emerging web technologies
  • Interface with the design team to bring their user experience designs to life
  • Manage the lifecycle of the iPhone OS-based application

Skills and Experience:

  • The number of years of experience you have is not as important as your raw intelligence
  • iPhone/Mac development experience: you've built some really great apps
  • Proficiency programming in C/C++
  • Experience with WebKit development would be a plus
  • Experience with modern web technologies like HTML5, CSS, JS, SVG, OpenGL ES, etc.
  • Engineering project management skills would be valued

Web Application Engineer

San Francisco, CA

Help us build a powerful set of tools to create and manage rich interactive content for mobile devices. The successful candidate will get a healthy chunk of pre-Series-A equity, a salary, benefits and all the goodness that comes with working at an exciting startup in San Francisco. Responsibilities will be broad and tailored to the skills and passions of the candidate, and will include the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead role in implementing a new class of rich web applications
  • Interface with the design team to bring their user experience designs to life
  • Target a specific browser engine, probably WebKit, to push its limits and make rich applications
  • Manage the lifecycle of the web-based applications

Skills and Experience:

  • The number of years of experience you have is not as important as your intelligence
  • You can point to compelling examples of your work that are online today
  • Engineering project management skills would be a plus
  • We need people on both the front end and the back end
    • On the front end, we're looking for somebody with really strong experience with HTML5 and JS frameworks like jQuery, MooTools, SproutCore, or Cappuccino
    • On the back end, we need somebody comfortable working with Python and who can navigate clusters of MySQL and Memcached servers

Although this position is viewed as an individual contributor role, the company is growing, and we'd consider people with the experience to grow into management roles, too.

Interactive Designer

San Francisco, CA

Human-centered design is at the heart of everything we do at Inkling. We're seeking a full-time designer to work with our creative team to help develop our innovative and delightful user experiences for mobile devices and for the web. The successful candidate will get a healthy chunk of pre-Series-A equity, a salary, benefits and all the goodness that comes with working at an exciting startup in San Francisco. Responsibilities will be tailored to the skills and passions of the candidate, and may include some combination of the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Development of use-case scenarios
  • Development of user interaction flows and user interface wireframes
  • Visual design of content and/or user interfaces
  • Icon design
  • Illustration

Skills and Experience:

  • Good typography and page layout skills
  • Experience with illustration, icon design, and/or animation
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity with (and preferably proficiency in) the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and/or Flash would be a plus

Candidates are not expected to have experience in all of these areas, just a subset.

Learning Content Designer

San Francisco, CA (full-time, internship and part-time contract opportunities available)

We're looking for talented individuals with subject matter expertise and teaching experience to help us bring compelling content to the platform.

The successful candidate will work closely with our content ingestion team to produce new content and enrich existing learning content with interactivity, media and other enhancements. Team members will both work with commercial and Creative Commons content sources as well as write new educational content.

We're tackling content in the following subject areas:

  • Physical Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Social Sciences (Economics, Sociology, etc.)
  • Foreign Languages
  • English Composition
  • Art

The successful candidate will have:

  • Subject matter expertise in one of the aforementioned subject areas
  • Experience teaching in either K-12 or higher education
  • Creative approaches to teaching with technology
  • A knack for making learning an interactive process
  • A strong understanding of assessment frameworks and rubrics
  • MA or PhD in one of the aforementioned subject areas preferred but not required

Note that this is a nontechnical position, and candidates do not need a formal background in technology. Proficiency in standard productivity environments (preferably with the Mac) will be sufficient.
