iPhone Application Engineer

Inkling is building one of the most complex and powerful platforms for iPhone OS-based devices. Help us build this delightful user experience for iPhone OS-based devices like iPod touch, iPhone and iPad. Web Application Engineer

Pipeline Engineer

Help us solve the tough technical challenges involved in building a scalable data pipeline. Building an infrastructure for bringing complex content from our publisher partners to the Inkling platform is critical to our success, and we need skilled engineers to scale and accelerate the process with clever technical approaches.

The successful candidate will take the lead on building out our ingestion pipeline processs and software, and will include the following:

  • Collaborate with the product and design teams to build content specifications
  • Design and maintain a set of cloud services to ingest, transform, and distribute the content
  • Consult with the design and business teams to support the process of ingestion on specific, high-value projects

Skills and Experience:

  • At least two years of experience building scalable data processing and distribution services, or related experience

Platform Engineer

Inkling’s back-end system must handle massive volumes of data from ingestion, to delivery, to ongoing use by users, all in real time. We’re looking for a talented platform engineer who can help us build a set of next-generation web services that will enable us to reliably interface with a multitude of mobile devices and scale the system quickly.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad array of individual services, with responsibilities that include the following:

  • Architect, implement, and maintain a quickly evolving set of cloud-based services that powers content creation, distribution, and interaction for clients on the web and on mobile devices
  • Work in a nimble, cross-language environment that uses cutting-edge tools to bring the product vision to life: in a given day our engineers work with Cassandra, Tornado, Thrift, Java, Python and others
  • Manage the lifecycle of the components for which you’re responsible in a test-driven environment

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years experience working with similar systems
  • Comfortable working in a broad array of languages, including Python, Java and Scala
  • Deep familiarity with the components of cloud-based services, including caching, database architecture, API design, queueing services, etc.

Sr./Jr. Interactive Art Director

Inkling works closely with its content partners to create unique learning experiences that take advantage of our powerful software platform. Working across the functional groups, across creative disciplines, and with both full-time and contracted talent, the Interactive Art Director will lead, manage, and actively contribute to Inkling’s most important creative projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop compelling interactive educational content for the Inkling platform
  • Direct interactive media projects, playing dual roles in project management and creative development; oversee planning, concept development, design and implementation
  • Establish the creative strategy for the digital publication and delivery of learning content
  • Work closely with partner managers and clients; collaborate with client editorial teams to establish goals and requirements
  • Experiment with new strategies for creating rich interactive experiences with educational content; work with the software team to improve and extend the product/platform

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience designing rich experiences for print, web, or other media
  • Experience leading small to medium-sized creative teams, either formally or virtually
  • Excellent graphic design and information design skills
  • Ability to distill complex information into visually compelling stories and experiences

Sr. Front End Developer

Inkling seeks a Sr. Front End Developer to assist in the creative design and implementation of the world’s best learning content. The Sr. Front End Developer will work as part of Inkling’s design team, creating the stylesheets and other technical components necessary to make content from educational publishers look beautiful and perform seamlessly in the Inkling platform. The Sr. Front End Web Developer will also play a role overseeing the development of bullet-proof HTML and CSS templates and style guides that can be applied across many publishers’ titles.

  • Design templates, stylesheets and other style elements for learning content
  • Work closely with visual designers to implement their designs with high fidelity
  • Work with engineers to architect markup that is extensible and maintainable

Digital Content Production Manager

San Francisco, CA

We’re looking for an experienced production manager with a background in print and/or digital publishing to oversee Inkling’s digital production schedule, manage content ingestion processes and oversee content quality assurance. Offering users high quality content is critical to our success, and the digital content production manager will play a key role in improving our ability to bring exciting content to Inkling. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the master schedule of content ingestion and development projects
  • Work cross-functionally to balance resources within the company and deliver projects on target
  • Work with the Partner Relations team to analyze data and prioritize projects in the production pipeline
  • Manage performance and scheduling with offshore partners
  • Facilitate production meetings with the Partner Relations, Engineering, Design and Content teams with an emphasis on balancing external commitments with internal resources
  • Identify and facilitate improvement in production processes

Skills and Experience:

  • 3-5 years experience in a print and/or digital publishing production role; we may also consider candidates with other project management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people, especially in a cross functional capacity
  • Clear attention to detail and a strong desire to deliver “perfect” projects

Partner Engagement Manager

Inkling partners closely with educational content publishers and authors to enhance their existing content for the Inkling platform. We also create new learning content from the ground up to take advantage of the interactive, mobile and social features of the Inkling platform. Partner Engagement Managers serve as Inkling’s interface with publishers in a business development context and are responsible for developing and executing multiple projects with our editorial and business partners within those organizations. Partner Engagement Managers typically work with a single partner.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary interface to a major publisher partner, including maintaining existing relationships and developing new ones with publishing teams throughout the organization
  • Collaborate with publisher’s editorial teams to identify and prioritize projects
  • Interface with Inkling’s creative design and engineering teams to scope partner projects
  • Manage multiple projects to completion
  • Create project plans, identifying and tracking milestones and cross-functional dependencies
  • Coordinate with a cross-functional team made up of both Inkling and publisher team members to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
  • Track P&L for major titles on the Inkling platform
  • Participate in the design and execution of demand generation programs, especially for titles released by your partner

Skills and Experience:

  • Three or more years of recent project management, business development and/or marketing experience
  • Proven ability and interest in implementing projects and establishing collaborative partnerships with external organizations
  • Detail oriented and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous and fast paced, growing environment
  • Past work experience in the publishing industry and/or the education sector preferred

Operations Manager

We’re looking for an experienced operations manager to help us implement complex processes, including end-user support, content ingestion and corporate operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with all areas of the company, including design, engineering and business development to improve our overall operational efficiency. The role will expand over time to include the implementation of a customer support infrastructure, in addition to the expansion of our overall corporate operations portfolio.

Compensation and the specific title assigned to the successful candidate will be concomitant with his or her relevant experience.

Responsibilities will include:

  • General operational management across many different aspects of the business
  • Expansion of HR programs and offerings
  • Management of core vendor relationships, especially for product and content development
  • Facilities and infrastructure oversight
  • Other things that require a smart brain and aren’t engineering-related

Applicants should have some combination the following experience:

  • At least 5 years experience in a managerial role at a growing company
  • Experience in operations, HR, finance, support or other relevant disciplines
